Did My Neurons Make Me Do It? Philosophical Perspectives on Moral Responsibility and Freewill

Are humans the authors of their own thoughts and actions?

Mind is an embodied cognitive vehicle that is shaped and constituted by action-feedback-evaluation-action loops in the environment scaffolded by socialization and culture. Free Will is the basis of morality and moral responsibility where people are held responsible for their actions. The consequences of free will are real and compatible with the deterministic view of this universe while the concept in itself may be an illusion.

Is it a misconception to think of our behavior as largely conscious and willed? I think it is a reality that we are not always in control of what we do but instead we are subjected to forces deep within us driving our behavior and operating below the level of our awareness.
